Pinot Noir 101

WHAT IS PINOT NOIR?

Widely grown throughout the world, but thriving best in cooler climates, Pinot Noir is known for producing some of the world’s best wines.  The grape is grown throughout the world, from Austria to Canada and everywhere in between, however some of the most famous come from France and America.  A challenging grape to grow, Pinot Noir is sensitive to frost, soil conditions, and pruning techniques, it is just as finicky in production of wine whereby it is sensitive to fermentation methods and yeast strains, so extra time and care must be taken in the production of Pinot Noir.

A TALE OF 3 PINOT NOIRS:

Bogle

Bogle’s Pinot Noir is sourced from areas that provide ideal growing conditions for the grape, namely the cooler Russian River Valley, Monterey hills, and the Clarksburg delta.  Classically produced, this and all Pinot Noirs pair perfectly with pork. This family owned and operated vineyard has been making wine for decades and has seen unparalleled success with this textbook California Pinot Noir that truly over delivers on quality.

Fat Bastard

France is where Pinot Noir shows us the truest expression of the grape and thus varietal.  Rich, smooth and elegant, this is a textbook Pinot Noir with smooth tannins, fruit notes on the palate and a long finish.  French Pinots are typically from the Burgundy region, but this one is unique due to being sourced primarily from Southern France and the small island of Corsica.  An exceptional value, don’t let the name fool you – this is a serious wine that can be enjoyed on its own or pairs well with a variety of foods.

A to Z

Oregon Pinot Noir at its finest, this wine shows us why the state is most well known for its production of this complex grape.  Elegant and rich with notes of cherry and cranberry, the grapes are sourced from more than 30 vineyards in Oregon, which lends to the wine’s complexity.  No wonder this gem received 85 points from Wine Enthusiast!
