ControversiALE by Short's Brewing Company

Mon, 04/04/2016 - 9:24am -- Beer Guy

ControversiALE
Short's Brewing Company
American India Pale Ale
6.5% ABV

I often say that everyone has a different palate and you should rightfully keep that in mind when reading this blog. What I deem a disappointment may very well emerge as your next favorite. The simple fact is that you have to try everything for yourself and let your own senses be the barometer for your future purchases. Cool? Cool!

Grapefruit Sculpin by Ballast Point Brewing Company

Sun, 03/13/2016 - 8:59pm -- Beer Guy

Grapefruit Sculpin
Ballast Point Brewing Co.
India Pale Ale with grapefruit
7% ABV

Look folks, like it or not, there's a new kid on the beer block and they're about to change the way you think about the age-old elixir we have all come to crave. Last week, region beer geeks, myself included, happily welcomed the arrival of San Diego's award winning Ballast Point Brewing Company to Indiana. (Finally, I know.) Consequently, I have dedicated this installment of the Wise Guys Beer Blog to their famously popular year-round release Grapefruit Sculpin IPA.

Your Father Smelt of Elderberries by Stone Brewing Co.

Sat, 09/26/2015 - 9:35am -- Beer Guy

Your Father Smelt of Elderberries
Stone Brewing Company
Medieval-style ale brewed with Elderberries
10.3% ABV

I haven't been a fan of Stone's Stochasticity series thus far, but I picked up this latest offering from Greg Koch and company largely, if not completely because of the Monty Python connection. Even if the beer stinks, it's still a pretty cool bottle to put on display, right? However, friends, trust me when I say that this brew is over the top, shout it from the mountains, doing cartwheels in the Wise Guys bomber aisle-fantastic!

w00tstout 3.0 By Stone Brewing Co.

Mon, 07/27/2015 - 9:24pm -- Beer Guy

w00tstout 3.0
Stone Brewing Co.
Ale brewed with cocoa, pecans, wheat & rye, with one quarter aged in bourbon barrels
14% ABV

Having skipped Indiana last year, it was a pleasant surprise to see that Stone would be sending w00tstout 3.0 our way in 2015. If I remember correctly, the inaugural release in 2013 went on to be one of my favorite beers of the year. Here's hoping this collaboration from Drew Curtis, Wil Wheaton and Greg Koch remains the same, if not having gotten substantially better!
