2015 Southern Hemisphere Harvest Fresh Hop IPA
Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.
Beer Guy here! Hey! Is there a seasonal brew that you absolutely and without a doubt have to try every time it makes its way back to the shelves? Well, for me, it's Sierra Nevada's Fresh Hop IPA from their 5-Beer Harvest Series. I just can't get enough of these New Zealand hops!
Here we go!
The pour on Fresh Hop is amber in color with a wonderfully fluffy, off-white head that shows great retention and lacing throughout.
Huge earthy floral and pine notes punch you in the nose right off the bat, accompanied by notes of sweet caramel, lemon zest and tangerine. As far as an aromatic profile goes, this is about as inviting as it gets!
Let's dig in and see how good this actually tastes.
Woah! This is a super complex brew!
There is an unmistakable juicy fruitness from the fresh New Zealand hops, combined with hints of sugary bubblegum esters akin to beers brewed with Belgian yeast. This is followed up by a combination of sweet and creamy North American malts and a danky grapefruit hop finish that is often attributed to a West Coast style IPA. And, believe me, this finish lingers, so you've got to be a fan of bitter, earthy hops to really appreciate this one.
Overall, this is a really tasty brew. In a craft beer world where bottle prices continue to soar, it's great to see a brewery like Sierra Nevada offer up a quality product at such an affordable price. Pick this up NOW, and drink it NOW!
Until next time...
