Oktoberfest by Upland Brewing Co
Available for a limited time in 6pk nr for $10.99
Beer Style Octoberfest/Marzen:
In the earlier days of brewing beer it was nearly impossible to brew beer in the summer, (due to spoilage from hotter temps) so brewing ended in March. (Marzen) This beer was refrigerated and the style was condusive to that. Lots of malt flavor.
Appearance: Orange-ish brown with a large initial head that dissipates quickly.
Aroma: Malt bomb
Mouth-feel: Medium bodied, some carbonation
Taste: Caramel malts, some hops in background, alcohol and bread
Overall: Year-to-year, Upland's Oktoberfest has been one of my favorites and this year's edition keeps the trend going. The Marzen style is nothing complex or complicated, quite simply its heavy on the malt. This brew has that and a smooth mouthfeel as well. (No real hallertau hops until the finish.) Very well balanced for a beer with an ABV higher than most Octoberfests.
If you only try one American Oktoberfest outside of Sam Adam's make it this one!
